More than 75,234 matric exam candidates are preparing to write their first paper of Mathematics, Mathematical Literacy, or Technical Mathematics, on Friday.

The second paper will be written on Monday.

Western Cape Education MEC David Maynier said that these two sessions were the largest of the exams each year.

"Current matrics must be enrolled for one of the three Maths subjects, and all three options are written in the same sessions."

Maynier said ensuring that these large sessions could take place successfully required a great deal of logistical planning.

"And so we appeal to the public to continue giving their support to our matrics as they have done so far, and avoid any disruptions to the exams."
