Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu said public institutions need to be strengthened to better serve the public interest amid mounting concerns about crime and corruption in the public sector.

Ndlovu was speaking at the G20 anti-corruption ministerial meeting in Skukuza.

This is part of the fight for more transparent systems to achieve public sector integrity, efficient asset recovery and stronger whistle-blower protection.

He said global collaboration was key for addressing the crisis.

"By impressing the lessons learnt from our experience in Mpumalanga and the ever-ranging support from the international community, we can make substantial strides towards the future where corruption is eradicated, resources are responsibly used, and all individuals can thrive equally."
