City of Johannesburg Executive Mayor Dada Morero faces criticism that the drive to clean up the city is motivated by the upcoming G20 Summit.
Speaking to 947’s Anele and the Club, he says, contrary to the narrative, work began before the G20 was handed over to President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2024.
“We made certain commitments in November in a Mayoral Committee… we adopted a strategy… [with] three pillars: bylaw enforcement and crime prevention, service delivery, and financial stability of the city.”
A budget, in line with the strategy, was adopted in June.
He adds: “A bulk of our budget went into infrastructure: roads, electricity, and water. Now we are at the stage where it is execution, since 1 July… even post the G20, you will see these programmes continue.”
