An anti-gender-based violence organisation is calling for psychosocial support for the Mamelodi family that lost two of their daughters in a brutal double murder last Sunday.

The Voice It In Action President, Kgothatso Moloto, said the deaths of Baleseng and Tshiamo Moramaga have left the family deeply traumatised.

A 38-year-old man, Tebogo Mnisi—believed to be the boyfriend of one of the girls—was arrested this week.

The cousins were laid to rest on Sunday in their hometown of Luckau Village in Groblersdal, Limpopo.

Moloto says government must do more to provide emotional support to affected families.

"We are challenging the government to make sure that psychosocial services are available across the country so that families, victims and survivors and the greater community can get psychosocial support."

Moloto said the pain of such violence has long-term emotional consequences for victims'families.

"Every time we lose a loved one in this manner, it’s a trigger. It means people will constantly remember this pain; they will go through this traumatic experience over again."

Mnisi faces two counts of murder, attempted murder, and charges of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
