Despite an opening loss, the DP World Lions remain focused on securing a third consecutive T20 Challenge title.

Eight provincial teams go head-to-head in the fast-paced tournament for a shot at the coveted trophy.

The Central Gauteng team lost its opening game to the Goldrush Boland by eight runs on Sunday.

Team coach Russell Domingo says it will be an exciting campaign following two consecutive title wins.

“I am really excited to see some of the young boys come up because I think part of our journey as a domestic team is to produce players for South Africa. We are doing that, and we can try and get some new players into the system now.”

Star player Rassie van der Dussen, who recently returned to the Lions after over a decade away, looks forward to ushering in new talent.

“Coming back, it always feels like home. Seeing the new faces, the responsibility is on the older guys to continue that winning culture,” he says.

Newcomer Siya Plaatjie says it is an honour to be part of the Lions’ rich history.

“To be part of something like that is super special, but it also comes with a lot of responsibility. My objective is to find a way I can help the guys and add something to the side. It’s really an exciting opportunity,” Plaatjie says.

The T20 Challenge runs until 30 November. Tickets are available on Ticketpro.
