The South African National Parks (SANParks) says the SPCA did not confiscate some dogs in the Table Mountain National Park K9 unit.

This follows speculation that the dogs were removed.

“Some dogs were retired due to age or health considerations, while others were redeployed to other SANParks K9 units to better meet operational needs and ensure dogs are used optimally according to their particular skills and capacity. All remaining service dogs continue to play a vital role in daily patrols, anti-poaching work, and visitor safety initiatives," said SANParks in a statement.

It said that upgrades were made to the TMNP K9 kennels and assures the public that the unit continues to operate effectively with its current capacity.

"SANParks remains dedicated to protecting both people and nature, and the TMNP K9 Unit continues to contribute meaningfully to that ongoing commitment," the statement concludes.
