JOHANNESBURG - South Africa’s Lenerd van Schalkwyk has demonstrated his impressive wrestling abilities by securing a silver medal at the Great British Wrestling Grand Prix, held in Manchester on November 1st and 2nd.

The event attracted top talent from over 17 nations, promising a thrilling display of wrestling skill. Competing in the U20, 57kg freestyle division, the 19-year-old Van Schalkwyk showed remarkable technique throughout the competition.

He wrestled in a challenging Nordic Pool format, competing across three rounds. His path to the podium included matches against:

Round 1: MD Dukhu Mia (Bangladesh)

Round 2: Tim Krasnickij (Germany)

Round 3: Ajndi Kryeziu (Albania)

Van Schalkwyk’s success in Manchester follows an earlier achievement this year, where he brought home a bronze medal from a tournament in Estonia. This latest performance solidifies a successful year for the young athlete.
