Thousands of New Yorkers in costume filled the streets on Friday, 31 October, for the 52nd annual Village Halloween Parade. The event once again transformed Sixth Avenue into the city’s largest block party, as goblins, ghouls, and zombies took over the night.
One of the parade’s highlights was a group of 100 dancers performing Michael Jackson’s legendary 'Thriller' as they made their way up the route. The tradition began nearly two decades ago as a small grassroots gathering with little more than a speaker in the back of a punch buggy, but gained major momentum after Jackson died in 2009.
That’s when Erin Hamilton joined Thriller NYC and helped turn the impromptu dance into a fully-fledged production, elevating it into one of the parade’s signature moments.
Along with the creative costumes and choreography, this year’s parade featured 14 floats designed in Clifton, New Jersey, all built around the playful theme, 'It’s a potluck!'
