Embattled Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo, will reappear before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry on Thursday, more than a month after he fell ill.
Khumalo testified for two days in late September before falling ill on the morning of 1 October, just minutes before he was expected to continue with his testimony.
It’s reported that he was rushed to hospital but discharged shortly after and was recovering from home.
It remains unclear what Khumalo was medically treated for.
Khumalo was the third witness to testify before the Madlanga Commission, following the testimonies of his close allies, National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola and KwaZulu-Natal police boss Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
He previously testified about the success of the Political Killings Task Team in the work they were doing under his command.
Khumalo will continue with his testimony while a cloud of uncertainty hangs over his tenure as the Crime Intelligence boss.
Two weeks after falling ill at the Madlanga Commission - prompting an immediate postponement of his testimony – Khumalo appeared alongside two of his co-accused in the Pretoria Regional Court in an ongoing fraud and corruption case.
Khumalo and five other senior Crime Intelligence officials are charged with fraud and corruption related to the appointment of 30-year-old Dineo Mokwele to an executive position within the unit, despite her not having any previous policing experience.
Khumalo is contesting his bail conditions, which stipulate that he can’t return to work.
The magistrate in the matter recused himself, resulting in a delay in Khumalo’s submission to have his bail conditions relaxed
That matter will be heard later this month.
