The parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption will resume on Tuesday with Deputy Minister of Police Polly Boshielo testifying.

Boshielo’s appearance comes after the second Deputy Minister in the department, Cassel Mathale, gave evidence last week.

Boshielo is expected to provide the committee with information on the current state of policing in the country, and her knowledge of the disbanding of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) by Senzo Mchunu.

The committee will resume with more evidence on the responsibilities of deputy ministers and the responsibilities delegated to them.

Last week, Mathale revealed that he had not been delegated any powers by Mchunu since his appointment a year ago.

He also told the committee that he was not informed about the directive to disband the PKTT.

Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia, who is expected to appear after Boshielo, told the police committee on Monday that the Madlanga Commission and Ad Hoc Committee will help expose the rot in the police.

“But the Madlanga and Ad Hoc Committee is going to cast an eye on the darkness of problems that we face in South African policing. It will present us with a difficult moment.”

The next set of witnesses will include Mchunu’s chief of staff Cedric Nkabinde as well as controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi.
