A Hawks officer claims he was pressured by his superior to "drive recklessly" to reach the house of suspected crime boss Katiso "KT" Molefe on the day of his arrest.
Warrant Officer Sabelo Nkosi, who is attached to the Hawks’ Tactical Operations Management Section, testified before the Madlanga Commission on Monday.
Nkosi said on 6 December 2024, he was instructed by his superior, Brigadier Lesiba Mokeona, to go to a Sandton address and check whether there are people impersonating police officers.
The home belonged to Molefe, who was being arrested by the South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) in connection with the murder of Vaal engineer Armand Swart.

Nkosi said Mokoena kept calling him insistently, unhappy that he was stuck in traffic while trying to get to Sandton.
“He said I must try to push,” said Nkosi
Evidence leader Advocate Lee Segeels-Ncube asked, “What did you understand by that?”
“Meaning that you must switch on your siren and blue lights now so that motorist will give way. Basically, you must drive recklessly now,” Nkosi replied.
Segeels-Ncube asked, “Did you put on your blue lights?”
“I didn’t commissioners,” Nkosi responded.
Meanwhile, the commission said it wants Mokoena to return to the stand and clarify some of the inconsistencies from his initial testimony.
However, Segeels-Ncube said Mokoena has communicated that he is not keen on that idea.
“He’s not sure, at this stage, if he is considered an implicated person having regard to the evidence that was led last week, so he is still considering his position. My understanding from the DPCI’s [Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation ot Hawks] legal adviser is that they have advised him not to participate, at this stage, unless the commission absolutely wants him to come, but even then, he will still consider his position.”
