Police probing 4 murders in Philippi East

Philippi East police detectives are probing a mass killing and a murder at a taxi rank. 

On Tuesday night, three men were shot dead in the Marikana informal settlement and then shortly before 7am on Wednesday morning, a man was shot and killed at a taxi rank along Stock Road.

The police's Andre Traut said that preliminary reports suggest that the three men killed on Tuesday night were executed in a cold-blooded manner.

"Operation Shanela ll deployments have been intensified in the area to quell any further violence. The SAPS will not tolerate such senseless acts of violence and every effort is being made to track down those responsible."

Meanwhile, the motive for the murder of a 41-year-old man at the Philippi East taxi rank on Wednesday morning remains unclear. 

Police are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
