The Cape of Good Hope SPCA said that the killing of three kittens in Ruyterwacht was the most brutal attack they've seen in a while.

Last week, a man, who had gone door-to-door trying to sell the kittens, allegedly beat them when no one was interested in buying them.

It's alleged he was trying to make money to buy drugs.

Only one kitten survived the attack.

SPCA spokesperson, Belinda Abrahm, said that their inspectors found the kittens wrapped in a yellow bag, buried under the sand.

"The suspect was arrested on the scene and he's currently facing criminal charges of animal cruelty under the Animals Protection Act, and that carries a penalty of up to three years in prison, a fine or both. And the SPCA will be following the case closely to make sure that justice is served in this instance."
