The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it entered into a plea agreement with former Bosasa COO, Angelo Agrizzi, because he can help the State secure convictions amid ongoing corruption investigations at the contractor.

Agrizzi was handed a suspended sentence in the Pretoria High Court on Thursday.

He faced three counts of corruption and one of money laundering and was handed 10 years for each, suspended for five years.

This means Agrizzi will not serve any jail time.

Agrizzi started talking at the Zondo Commission, revealing alleged acts of crime committed by contractor Bosasa to secure government contracts from the correctional services.

While he was tried separately for fraud and money laundering, the investigating directorate has pending matters against other accused, including former Correctional Services commissioner, Linda Mti, and former member of Parliament, Vincent Smith.

The NPA believes Agrizzi can help them secure convictions in these cases.

While Agrizzi will not set foot in a prison cell for now, he must cooperate with prosecutors and not commit any similar crimes to keep his freedom.
