Joburg Emergency Services is calling on motorists to practise caution on the road, with heavy downpours expected on Friday.

The Weather Service has forecast thunderstorms for Gauteng, parts of Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal. 

It's a warning that the conditions can lead to hail, localised flooding, and damaging winds. 

"Our faith organisations, we are pleading with them to avoid going into river streams to conduct baptisms and cleansing rituals so that we can prevent situations where congregants might be swept away while conducting these baptisms and cleansing rituals," said Johannesburg EMS spokesperson, Robert Molaudzi.
