The uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party said suspended parliamentary leader John Hlophe had no authority to unilaterally reshuffle the organisation’s parliamentary caucus despite his position.

On Tuesday, Hlophe fired Colleen Makhubele as the parliamentary chief whip and replaced her with Des van Rooyen.

However, that decision has since been reversed by the party's leadaer, Jacob Zuma, who also placed Hlophe on suspension for alleged ill-discipline.

Zuma recently undertook a trip to Burkina Faso, where he reportedly met with the country’s junta leader, Ibrahim Traore.

Head of presidency Magasela Mzobe Ais Zuma was shocked when he returned to the country and saw there had been changes to the party’s parliamentary caucus.

Mzobe said Zuma made it clear that the party's newly appointed second Deputy President, Tony Yengeni, would be in charge in his absence.

“Therefore, the leadership in Parliament is expected to, among others, consult the second Deputy President, Tony Yengeni, and the collective leadership of the party before any decision of this nature is taken.”

Mzobe said Hlophe will be subjected to the party’s internal disciplinary processes.
