Internal factional squabbles continue to plague the uMkhonto weSizwe Party as the country’s official opposition has announced the suspension of its Deputy President and parliamentary leader John Hlophe. 

The announcement was made on Wednesday night, in a statement signed by the party’s head of presidency Magasela Mzobe.

Mzobe is the spokesperson and close ally of the MK Party’s leader - Jacob Zuma.

The statement added that the decision to replace Colleen Makhubele as the party’s parliamentary chief whip with Des van Rooyen has been nullified.

The party said Hlophe took the decision to relieve Makhubele from her duties without consulting Zuma who was away in Burkina Faso.
