The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms in Gauteng and other parts of the country.
SAWS said the rains may lead to localised flooding, while some areas may experience damaging winds, and hailstorms.
Residents have been urged to keep monitoring weather forecasts and alerts.
Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela said the rain is expected from Friday afternoon.
“In our weather for today [Friday], cloudy and cool conditions are expected to persist into the afternoon, covering the central and eastern parts of the country, with a 60% chance of showers and thundershowers possible by the afternoon over the Free State province, KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, the North West, into the northern parts of the Northern Cape, as well as the high felt of Mpumalanga.”
