Drakenstein Municipality opens all public swimming pools for summer

The Drakenstein Municipality in the Western Cape has officially opened all public swimming pools for the summer season.

Across the municipality, five public pools will be open daily and on weekends until 31 March.

The municipality has also appointed over 50 lifeguards for the season, who are all trained and accredited.

The spokesperson for the municipality, Ilse Schoombee, said they will prioritise the safety of all swimmers during the busy period.

“The safety of everyone using public swimming pools is our top priority - that is why we’ve appointed 55 lifeguards, trained and accredited by the National Sea Rescue Institute and who will be deployed at the different pools. We urge everyone in Drakenstein to stay alert when swimming this summer.”

In the City of Cape Town, MMC for Community Services and Health Francine Higham said that public swimming pools will open their doors daily in December.

“The Community Services and Health Directorate is finalising its summer readiness plans, including the drowning prevention programme, Identikidz and swimming pool operations. Details will be released in the coming weeks. On swimming pools, the four indoor facilities in Retreat, Blue Downs, Strand and Long Street are open year-round, as well as Sea Point.”
