Zimbabwean opposition leader Job Sikhala will remain in custody in South Africa after his criminal case was postponed to Wednesday for a formal bail hearing.

Sikhala, a former member of Parliament for the Citizens Coalition for Change, appeared before the Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of possession of explosives.

The prominent Zimbabwean politician was arrested last week after explosives were found in his vehicle while he was driving in the capital.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana said that the State is currently unsure whether it will oppose bail.

“Investigations in this matter are ongoing, but you must understand that the State does not enroll any matter unless there is prima facie evidence against the accused, as he was found in possession of the explosives.”
