With some political parties raising the alarm over the sharp increase in online gambling, Rise Mzansi is taking its concerns directly to the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.
The party has announced plans to picket outside the department’s offices in Pretoria on Friday, to demand urgent reforms to South Africa’s gambling laws.
Rise Mzansi argues the gambling industry continues to destroy lives and livelihoods.
Party spokesperson Mabine Seabe has urged all concerned South Africans to join the protest.
“Makashule Gana [national organiser] will deliver a memorandum of demands on behalf of the people of South Africa and outline RISE Mzansi’s 7-Point Plan to reform the gambling industry. An industry which is damaging lives and livelihoods.
“RISE Mzansi remains steadfast in its campaign for reforms in the gambling industry, which in the 2024/25 financial year milked R1,5-trillion from South Africans, while only paying R5,8-billion in taxes.”
