Winde said 65,000 jobs were added in quarter three, year-on-year.

He said government will continue working with businesses and companies to grow the economy and create jobs.

"Thanks must go to the entrepreneurs, those people that grow their businesses, that invest in their businesses and increase employment. I think, this also bodes well for the upcoming season. We have the agricultural seasons and tourism seasons, and, I think, that bodes well for us to continue on this trajectory of lowering our unemployment rate."

COCT SERIOUS ABOUT GETTING CAPETONIANS TO WORK

Meanwhile, Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said the latest jobs statistics show that the city is serious about getting Capetonians to work.

Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) released the country's unemployment figures for quarter three of 2025 on Tuesday.

The unemployment numbers have dropped to 31.9% from 33.2%.

This brings the number of employed people to 17.1 million, while eight million other people eligible to work are still jobless.

Hill-Lewis said 1.8 million Capetonians were employed in quarter three.

"I'm thrilled to receive the latest jobs stats for Cape Town from Stats South Africa, which show that there have been 40,000 new jobs created in Cape Town over the last quarter, and 70,000 new jobs in Cape Town created over the last year. Cape Town retains its position as having the lowest unemployment of all of the cities in South Africa and the highest number of new jobs growth."
