The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) says it is confident that it can secure a lengthy conviction against Limpopo musician Lehlogonolo Chauke, also known as Shebeshxt.

The 30-year-old lekompo artist is facing charges of attempted murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and malicious damage to property, all linked to a road-rage shooting last month.

However, prosecutors say these are not his only run-ins with the law. The NPA is currently reviewing more cases against him from other parts of the province.

The authority says it is building what it calls a "comprehensive case", combining several incidents that point to a clear and consistent pattern of violent behaviour.

The NPA argues that Chauke’s public outbursts, including a previous video of him allegedly brandishing a weapon and earlier assault claims, could be admissible to strengthen the State’ case.

If successful, the consolidation of these incidents would escalate his case to a Schedule Six offence, making bail almost impossible and exposing him to a significant prison term if convicted.

Limpopo NPA spokesperson Mashudu Dzhangi confirmed the gravity of the potential Schedule Six classification:

“So you mustn't tell us about the ordinary things to try and get out on bail; they need to be extraordinary to make him get out.”

Chauke is expected back in the Polokwane Magistrates Court next Friday.
