Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi survived to see another day in office after the motion of no confidence against him failed to pass.
The provincial legislature heard the motion on Friday, which was brought by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
The party accused Lesufi of mishandling allegations of corruption regarding the Tembisa Hospital tenders and negligence regarding the unconstitutional establishment of the crime prevention wardens.
However, the DA has failed to convince the majority of political parties in the provincial legislature to support its motion.
The Gauteng provincial legislature consists of 11 political parties, most of which refused to support the motion of no confidence against Lesufi.
Only the DA voted in favour of removing him, while all the other parties, including those in the opposition, voted for Lesufi to remain in office.
Parties that rejected the motion argued that the DA’s proposal was frivolous and pointed out that it was the DA itself that helped elect Lesufi last year.
Legislature Speaker Morakane Mosupyoe announces the results.
The Freedom Front Plus refused to support the DA's motion against the premier and chose to abstain from the vote.
