President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived at the CEO-City Clean-Up Programme at Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.
He is currently in a closed meeting with private-sector representatives, government officials and civil-society leaders.
The initiative, launched by Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero earlier this week, aims to create long-term solutions to the city’s decay.
Ramaphosa is expected to conduct a walkabout at the square and then plant a tree.
He will later brief the media.
Premier spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga explained today’s visit:
“We want to lead from the front in terms of showing our people what to do.”
