The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) has announced plans to lead a protest calling for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and femicide to be declared a national disaster.
The protest, which is planned for Friday, is expected to run parallel to the march organised by advocacy group Women for Change, which is scheduled for the same day and for the same cause.

The ANCWL said while it supports the organisation’s planned shutdown on Friday, it will also hold its own demonstration.
Over the past week, Women for Change has mobilised for support online to raise awareness about the alarming rate of women and children abuse.
Women for Change is an advocacy organisation against GBV, which has spearheaded what is now known as the Purple Movement.
This Friday, the organisation will hold a national protest, during which participants are expected to dress in black, lead a ‘lie-down’ protest for 15 minutes and boycott the economy.
"There are those that are working with us and they are doing their protest online, whilst ours is going to be physical because that is what we are good at," said ANCWL secretary-general Nokuthula Nqaba.
The ANCWL will march to Constitutional Hill in Braamfontein on Friday.
