A cohort of seven celebrated former South African footballers and a coach, including Kaizer Chiefs legends Doctor Khumalo and Mark Williams, were formally inducted into the SA Hall of Fame on Friday evening.

The ceremony honoured some of the nation's most iconic figures in the sport.

Khumalo, the former Amakhosi captain who played over 400 games for the club, expressed his gratitude.

"I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Khosi family for their support and encouragement. I could not have done it without them supporting me every step of the way," Khumalo said. "Above all, I would like to thank the chairman for his support and dedication in guiding me through this challenging journey."

Williams, a fellow 1996 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winner, highlighted the significance of being honoured during his lifetime.

"For me and what I went through in my football career, it was a wonderful occasion to be honoured while I am still alive," he stated. "I have seen many players honoured after they have passed, and I think it is important they celebrate legends while they are still alive."

The duo were joined by their 1996 AFCON-winning teammates Mark Fish and the late Phil Masinga, as well as the late coach Clive Barker.

Also among the inductees were former Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana captains, Aaron Mokoena and Janine van Wyk.

The Inducted Legends

Philemon Masinga: Revered striker whose historic goal sent Bafana Bafana to the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Janine vanWyk: South Africa’s most-capped footballer and a fearless leader in the rise of women’s football.

Doctor Khumalo: The midfield magician whose name is forever linked to South African football greatness. (He was represented by his business manager Jazzman Mahlakgane and members of the Khumalo family.)

Mark Fish: The rock-solid defender from the 1996 AFCON-winning squad.

Mark Williams: Our 1996 AFCON hero who netted both goals in the final and brought a nation to its feet.

Aaron Mokoena: The youngest player ever to play for Bafana Bafana, making his debut at just 18 years old in 1999. He later also became one of the youngest captains of the national team.
