The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) has warned of harsh legal repercussions for distributors who sell or advertise unauthorised medicines.
This comes after the authority identified several adverts on social media falsely claiming to sell authorised products, including weight loss products.

The regulator said some of the products are being shipped from China and sold illegally in South Africa.
“Many products are being shipped from outside South Africa and claim to be within our borders, which is also false. SAHPRA urges the public to exercise caution in buying medicines online and to purchase medicines only from accredited pharmacies and retailers,” said spokesperson Yuven Gounden.
