Zuma-Sambudla's social media account played significant role in lead-up to July unrest, court hears

A digital expert has analysed several of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla's previous tweets as the prosecution seeks to solidify its case that she incited the July 2021 unrest.

Cyber crime expert for the Hawks, Janine Steynburg, was in the dock on Monday afternoon. Trent, who probed Zuma-Sambudla's tweets and also opened a case against her in 2021, reiterated before the court that the accused's social media account played a significant role in the lead-up to the unrest.

Steynburg presented evidence of specific posts, stating: "On 9 July 2021, the accused published a poster promoting the shutdown of KwaZulu-Natal. In the tweet, she states: 'Until President Zuma is free, safe alive, I agree with this amandla.'"
