City of Ekurhuleni launches internal probe into officials implicated in Madlanga Commission

The City of Ekurhuleni has launched an internal investigation into all its officials implicated in the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Last week, the commission heard alarming testimony from several officials, alleging the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has been infiltrated by criminal elements.

Some of the people implicated include EMPD’s suspended deputy chief, Julius Mkhwanazi, and former city manager Imogen Mashazi.

They are both accused of enabling the EMPD to associate with criminals, including alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.

Addressing the media on Tuesday morning, Mayor Doctor Xhakaza has vowed to ensure full accountability and consequences for those involved.

“All implicated officials are similarly being processed through the city's disciplinary framework, and these measures are to ensure that the integrity of investigation and affirmed accountability irrespective of ranks.”
