The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng is calling for the investigation into tender corruption at the Tembisa Hospital to be expanded to include all other medical facilities in the province.
The party held a picket outside Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s office in Johannesburg on Thursday, demanding the recovery of the R2 billion stolen from the hospital.
The DA believes that tender corruption within the Gauteng Health Department is widespread across most public medical facilities.
Delivering a memorandum of demands, DA spokesperson for health, Jack Bloom, said the party wanted answers regarding the stolen funds.
"This money was stolen from the poor, the sick, and the vulnerable. It needs to be recovered from the syndicate kingpins who bought flashy cars and luxury property while patients suffer in dingy, understaffed, and underequipped hospitals."
