Western Cape transport officials have expressed deep concern at the spike in drunk driving incidents, following the arrest of 24 drunk drivers this past week.
As the busy festive season approaches, provincial traffic authorities say they've issued more than 9,000 fines at various roadblocks, including 200 speeding fines.
Provincial Traffic's Maxine Bezuidenhout is urging motorists to act responsibly and respect the law.
"The high number of drunk driving arrests is deeply concerning. Even small amounts of alcohol can impair judgement and slow reaction times. Our officers will continue to take firm action against anyone who chooses to endanger others by driving under the influence."
