Ali Bacher unveils first-of-its-kind sports facility to revitalise Joburg's CBD

The Johannesburg CBD has received a significant facelift with the unveiling of a new, first-of-its-kind sports complex, dubbed the Field of Dreams project.

The initiative is spearheaded by former national cricket captain and administrator, Ali Bacher, whose aim is to empower the city's youth and revitalise the inner city. Located in the inner city, the complex seeks to provide a safe and secure environment where talented youngsters can thrive in soccer, basketball, and netball.

The Field of Dreams initiative is a partnership between Bacher, the non-profit organisation Maharishi Institute, and Standard Bank, which donated the land upon which the facility is built.

Bacher stated that this project was his way of repaying South Africa.

"This country has been very good to me and to my family. They’ve given me every opportunity to do what I felt was best for my talent and my family, too. So it’s payback time, which I want to do but with a generous heart."
