Cape Town has officially kicked off the festive season in the heart of the city centre.
Crowds are expected throughout the day as local artists and special guests perform ahead of the much-anticipated festive lights switch-on.
This year marks the 56th edition of the event, held under the theme "united in hope."
The festive lights switch-on remains one of Cape Town's biggest seasonal traditions, drawing thousands of residents and visitors to watch Adderley Street light up for the holidays.
The city is reminding parents and guardians to make use of the free ID bracelets available at all entry points.
These bracelets carry parental contact details and are designed to help reunite families if children become separated.
Motorists are also advised that road closures are in place along parts of Longmarket, Adderley, and Darling streets.
