Mkhwanazi was implicated in several criminal investigations, including an Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) report that found that he unlawfully entered into an agreement with alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
In a statement, Madlanga Commission spokesperson Jeremy Michaels also confirmed that the inquiry will this week hear testimony from suspended Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu and Mkhwanazi.
Mchunu is expected to appear before the commission on Tuesday, as he remains suspended in connection with allegations of having ties to criminal gangs and politically interfering in police operations.
Micheals said the commission will wrap up its public hearings for 2025 on Friday.
The three-month interim report will be compiled and handed to President Cyril Ramaphosa by 17 December.
