Former Ekurhuleni City Manager Imogen Mashazi has been accused of using a rape victim to push her agenda and corroborate some of her evidence.

Mashazi concluded her two-day testimony before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

But commissioners were concerned that she supplied the confidential medical records of a rape victim, which would in turn be made public.

According to Imogen Mashazi, a junior EMPD officer, was raped by former EMPD chief, Isaac Mapiyeye, and the rape charge was later withdrawn.

Mashazi supplied the victims' medical records to the commission, claiming she obtained permission from them.

But evidence leader, advocate Mahlape Sello, accused Mashazi of using the rape victim for her own ulterior motives

“Ulterior purposes, when you are confronted, and you are asked to clarify, then your response is that the victim must come. This commission is not interested in subjecting victims to secondary abuse, which appears to be a solution to a problem as far as you’re concerned.”

Mashazi responded by clarifying that the rape victim was willing to appear and testify herself.

“It is important for the commission to listen to her side of the story, irrespective of how your understanding is in terms of me using a junior to come and corroborate my story.”

Commissioner Sesi Baloyi indicated that the victim’s name would be made public as all statements placed before the commission are publicised on their website.
