Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero has dismissed claims that service delivery under his administration has declined sharply.
Morero survived yet another motion of no confidence in the city council on Tuesday, tabled by the Al-Jama-ah party.
Although part of the ANC-led coalition, Al-Jama-ah claimed that Morero was not prioritising the restoration of the city to its former glory.
However, during today’s council meeting, the party announced it would withdraw the motion following a meeting with the mayor last night.
The Al-Jama-ah party cited several reasons for tabling a motion of no confidence against Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero.
These included his formation of the Johannesburg bomb squad, poor service delivery, and failure to consult coalition partners on key decisions.
However, Morero has dismissed these claims as unfounded, insisting that he was making significant progress on the ground.
"I guess the contents of the motion indicated that there was no way the motion would even stand. We believe that we are beginning to improve on service delivery."
The ANC’s elective conference in Johannesburg kicks off tomorrow, where Morero will be running for re-election as the party’s regional leader.
