The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC)  will on Thursday release a report looking into the use of live ammunition during student protests at the Walter Sisulu University (WSU) in the Eastern Cape.

The commission instituted a probe following the murder of student Sisonke Mbolekwa.

Mbolekwa was shot dead at the Mthatha campus early this year.

A WSU residence manager was arrested for the murder.

The SAHRC in the Eastern Cape will issue the findings of its report into the WSU protest where live ammunition was used on protesting students.

Mbolekwa and Sethu Ndamase were shot at on campus in April this year.
While Ndamase survived and recovered in the hospital, Mbolekwa never made it.

Residence manager Manelisi Mampane was charged with murder and attempted murder in this regard.

The commission's report will outline the events surrounding the protest, including the escalation of the incident and the response of law enforcement, among other things.

It says its recommendations are aimed at strengthening accountability and improving the handling of protests in higher education spaces.
