Murder-accused Tiffany Meek will spend Christmas and New Year in custody after her pre-trial hearing at the Johannesburg High Court was postponed on Wednesday.

The matter has been postponed to 26 January to allow Meek’s newly appointed lawyer time to be furnished with the case docket.

Meek, who has been in custody since July, is facing five charges, including newly added counts of child abuse and neglect linked to the death of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee Meek.

Jayden-Lee was reported missing on 13 May after failing to return home from school. His lifeless body was found the following day near a staircase inside the Fleurhof complex near his home.

The court heard that Meek was abandoning her Legal Aid representative in favour of a new lawyer acquired by her family.

Attorney C. Van Douw, who was standing in for Meek’s newly appointed representative who could not attend proceedings, requested a postponement to allow time to be furnished with the docket and to facilitate the transfer of the matter to the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge.

The State told the court it was not opposed to the postponement to allow for a fair pre-trial process.

Meek remains behind bars.
