The Atlantic Seaboard is reeling after a cyclist and a runner succumbed to suspected heart attacks in the area in less than two days.
Tributes have since been pouring in on social media for Camps Bay resident Byron Herbert, who died while cycling in Victoria Road, Camps Bay, on Sunday morning.
Herbert played an instrumental role in highlighting sewage pollution in the ocean along the Atlantic Seaboard.
The identity of the runner who passed away on High Level Road in Sea Point on Monday still remains unknown.
Atlantic Seaboard Ward Councillor Nicole Jowell said the tragic coincidence has brought sadness to the community.
“We have had two people pass away in sudden circumstances in the Atlantic Seaboard. On Sunday morning, a cyclist in Victoria Road passed away after a suspected heart attack, and this morning, a runner on High Level Road also passed away from a presumed heart attack.”
Jowell has sent condolences to the families of the deceased men.
“It is very tragic, especially at this time of year when family comes together, for the families to be greeted with this very, very sad and tragic news. So I do send my condolences to all friends and families of the two deceased men.”
Jowell also thanked bystanders and emergency services for their assistance in both incidents.
