The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) will host an International Human Rights Day celebration at the Constitution Hill in Johannesburg.

Under the theme "Human rights, our everyday essentials", the event will also commemorate the 29th anniversary of the signing of South Africa's Constitution.

SAHRC spokesperson Wisani Baloyi said that they also wish to highlight the rule-of-law, with an emphasis on transparent governance, impartial judiciary and access to justice.

“The South African Constitution was adopted by the Constitutional Assembly on 08 May 1996 and certified by the Constitutional Court in October 1996. Former President Nelson Mandela signed the Constitution into law on 10 December 1996, and it came into effect on 4 February 1997.”
