City Power appeals for patience amid Allandale Substation upgrades

Johannesburg City Power is appealing to residents supplied by the Allandale Substation to be patient while the facility undergoes necessary upgrades.

The power utility stated that the upgrade project is affecting Rabie Ridge and its surrounding areas north of Johannesburg.

WHY THE UPGRADES ARE NECESSARY
City Power explained that the upgrades were necessitated by underlying issues that have been causing frequent outages in areas supplied by the substation. The utility has been struggling with its current infrastructure:

Ageing Cables: The station has been dealing with underground cables that are ageing, heavily jointed, and often surrounded by waterlogged areas.

Access Issues: Another major challenge is that network lines run underneath private property, which makes fault-finding difficult and severely limits access for repair teams.
City Power confirmed that infrastructure repairs will now begin to help lower the chances of frequent outages in the affected areas.
