A drunk driver is facing a charge of murder after crashing into a 20-year-old law enforcement officer on Jakes Gerwel Drive early on Sunday morning.
City of Cape Town law enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason said that the off-duty officer was attending to an accident scene near Samora Machel when he was struck.
Dyason said that the driver was arrested after it was determined he had been driving under the influence of alcohol.
"We extend our condolences to the offcer's loved ones and his colleagues. This is an absolute tragic end to a young life. The officer was just 20-years-old. The safety and security directorate will work tirelessly to ensure that justice is served and that the suspect faces the full might of the law."
