Cape Town Tourism's latest Domestic Travel Intent Report reveals that 80% of domestic travellers are making their way to Cape Town.
The research indicates that while South Africans are more budget-conscious this year, they’re not cancelling plans, but making more budget-savvy choices.
Self-catering options and lodging with family and friends are popular options.
Cape Town Tourism’s Chief Marketing Officer Briony Brookes explained: "The festive break still matters to South Africans. What we are seeing is people adapting instead of cancelling.
“They're travelling locally, they're seeking value, and they're choosing experiences that are making their money stretch even further, all while keeping Cape Town firmly in their December plans."
Brookes said they are working closely with tourism stakeholders to ensure year-round value for all domestic travellers, despite the budget.
"We are a city that remains welcoming to all locals and all travellers throughout South Africa to be part of our festive spirit."
