The City of Cape Town said that it will, once again, use technology to assist police officers around Table Mountain, the city centre, Bo-Kaap and key beaches this festive season.

Policing in and around Cape Town's CBD was beefed up this week, with the deployment of more than 200 municipal peace officers.

City Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith said the cadets will be assisted by their Technology Fusion Centre.

"Our fusion centre is one per cent in operation, where we use additional technology, including our computer-aided dispatching to track all of our deployments, as well as our in-vehicle dash cams and body-worn cameras."

Smith said that the city's safety drones will provide an extra layer of security.

"With drone operations and now CCTV bringing an added advantage, residents have come to expect the very best level of service from our directorate each festive season."

Smith said that the city’s festive safety plan also includes the safety of residents in gang-affected communities, where metro police officers are on patrol daily.
