Double tragedy: Investigations underway after child and teenager killed in separate incidents

Police in Steenberg have launched an investigation following the grim discovery of a six-year-old boy’s body inside a washing machine at a residence in Ensor Street, Cafda.

The discovery was made after police conducted a search of the home. The child’s father had reported him missing on Thursday morning.

COMMUNITY IN MOURNING
Steenberg Community Police Forum (CPF) representative, Nicola Small, says the local community is reeling following the shocking event. She has urged residents to remain calm to allow the official investigation to unfold without interference.

"This is meant to be a time of festivities, joy, and peace, but yet we are confronted with tragedy of this magnitude," Small said. "Today is indeed a very sad day for our precinct."

TEENAGER KILLED IN PHILIPPI SHOOTING
In a separate incident, Philippi police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 16-year-old boy.

The teenager sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest on Thursday. Although he was rushed to a nearby medical facility, he was tragically declared dead on arrival.

Police have not yet confirmed any arrests in connection with the shooting.
