A search operation is currently underway at the Hennops River following a missing persons report.

This comes after heavy rains battered large parts of Tshwane, damaging multiple roads and infrastructure.

The flooding has also claimed the life of one person who drowned in Olievenhoutbosch.

Tshwane emergency services are at the Hennops River to eliminate the possibility that a vehicle was swept away.

Police received a missing persons report on Sunday and have been conducting a search along the river.

With strong currents and high-water levels, emergency personnel will wait until conditions are safe before entering the river.

“Yesterday, we received a call from SAPS, who were at the Hennops River looking for two missing people. On arrival, we were informed that a missing persons case had been opened and that the last known location was identified here.

“Search and rescue, including swift-water rescue teams, arrived to search the river to determine whether a vehicle is present,” said Tshwane EMS spokesperson Nana Radebe Kgiba.

She also urged residents to exercise caution, as more rain is expected following a yellow level 4 warning issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS).
