WC hospitals treat more than 74 300 people over the festive period

The Western Cape Health Department has revealed that more than 74 300 people were admitted to hospital emergency centers over the festive period.
From December last year to January 2nd, 18 600 trauma cases and 52 200 medical admissions were recorded.
Chief operating officer for the Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness, Dr. Saadiq Kariem, says the province's emergency centers treated 254 people for gunshot wounds during the same period.
Kariem says 3350 people were treated for stabbings, 307 for sexual offenses, along with 66 child abuse cases.
“There were 4747 blunt assault cases, 626 motor vehicle accidents, 615 pedestrian-vehicle accidents, and 2940 accidents." He added.
