DIRCO responds hoping for 'progressive' outcome of US' capture of Maduro

The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) hopes there will be “progressive” outcomes when the United Nations Security Council meets on Monday to discuss the situation in Venezuela. 

The meeting comes after the United States of America invaded the South American country and kidnapped its head of state, Nicolas Maduro.

Following the incident, the South African government condemned the us’s actions as a violation of international law and called on the  United Nations (UN) to sanction the member state. 

The national leadership of the African National Congress ( ANC), which is the largest party in the country’s governing coalition, is currently meeting in Rustenburg, North West, to formulate its position on the matter.

Speaking on the sidelines of the meeting, DIRCO Minister Ronald Lamola said the US' actions violate the UN charter and the spirit of multilateralism.
