With January demands putting added pressure on the finances of many households, Cape Town Tourism says enjoying the Mother City doesn't have to cost a cent.

It has launched a guide to budget-friendly local tourism as part of its "My Cape Town" campaign, which invites Capetonians to share their favourite low-cost activities.

Spokesperson Briony Brookes has endorsed nature's cost-free joys like park picnics, a day at the beach and a family hike up Signal Hill.

"With January budgets under pressure after the festive season, we are reminding you that enjoying the city doesn't have to be expensive."

Brookes adds that Cape Town also offers low-cost luxury for January budgets.

She says neighbourhood markets, heritage sites and wine tastings can come at much lower prices than expected.

"You can still pack a picnic, head to the beach, enjoy a scenic walk or spend a relaxed morning at a local market, all without overspending," Brookes added.
